M. Hill Hammock
M. Hill Hammock has had a 36-year career in commercial banking in Chicago, joining LaSalle National Bank in 1975 and progressing through the ranks to reach the position of Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer. During his career, he served in many different roles including Head of Commercial Banking, Chief Credit Officer, Head of Human Resources, and Head of Operations. For LaSalle’s parent company, ABN AMRO, Mr. Hammock was the second ranking officer in the United States and a member of its Global Operations and Human Resources Strategic Committees. Upon retiring from LaSalle Bank in December 2006, he became Chief Administrative Officer for Chicago Public Schools, from 2007-2009, the third-largest school district in the United States. He oversaw all administration functions for the district and worked directly for Arne Duncan..
From 2013 to 2021, Mr. Hammock served as Chair of the Board of the Cook County Health and Hospital System. He previously held the position of Chair of the Metropolitan Planning Council of Chicago and the Chicago History Museum. Mr. Hammock is a Board member of The Civic Federation and The Better Government Association; co-chair of the Chicago Sunday Evening Club; chairman of the Metropolitan Planning Council, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the Chicago History Museum, the Chicago Deferred Exchange Company, and Leadership Greater Chicago; member of the University of Chicago Visiting Committee for the Harris School of Public Policy, and of the Commercial and Economic Clubs of Chicago. He is also a member of the Dean’s Council for The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and a board member of The Chicago Sunday Evening Club, The Better Government Association, The Civic Federation, and was Founding Chair of the American Writers Museum. Mr. Hammock earned his MBA from The University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business and his bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
