Leadership and English Teaching (LET)
American Councils for International Education is proud to continue its dedication to empowering Afghan youth and educators through the Leadership and English Teaching (LET) program.
The Leadership and English Teaching (LET) program is funded by the Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Mission to Afghanistan.
The Leadership and English Teaching (LET) program is an initiative that equips young Afghans with English language instruction and essential development skills, preparing them for success in a global economy and enabling them to make meaningful contributions to their communities.
The program comprises six, three-week camp-cohort sessions organized into two groups: three cohorts for Senior Groups of Afghan English Teachers (ages 18-35) and three camps for Junior Groups of Afghan youth (ages 13-18), with 50 participants in each camp/cohort, totaling 300 participants. Four camps will be mixed-gender, while two will be exclusively for females, strategically held in regions with Afghan refugees, which may include neighboring countries such as Pakistan, Türkiye, and Tajikistan.
Senior Groups will benefit from enhanced English pedagogical skills, increased cultural knowledge and diversity awareness, and advanced classroom management techniques. Youth groups will develop proficiency in English language, bolstered self-confidence, cultural appreciation, and a sense of solidarity with fellow Afghan youths from diverse regions.
The program spans 18 months from October 1, 2023, to March 30, 2025.
In Tajikistan, the senior session occurred from February to March 2024, while the junior session is set for May to June 2024. Türkiye is hosting both senior and junior sessions for 2024. Meanwhile, in Pakistan, senior and junior sessions are planned for 2025.
