Turkish Overseas Flagship Program

Advanced students of Turkish immerse themselves in daily language instruction to reach professional proficiency.

The Language Flagship is a national effort to change the way Americans learn languages. Flagship offers pathways for students of all academic majors and language levels to pursue advanced-level language study in one of seven languages: Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, or Turkish.

The Turkish Overseas Flagship provides an immersive overseas experience for undergraduates enrolled in the Language Flagship at Indiana University, Bloomington. The program helps participants develop a superior proficiency in Turkish, a critical language to US security and security.

There is both a domestic and an overseas component to the program. The domestic component trains students to reach the language proficiency required for the overseas component in Baku, Azerbaijan. The overseas program features formal coursework, conversations with language partners, bi-weekly excursions, and homestays with Turkish-speaking families. Participants benefit from additional opportunities for professional language development through courses in Turkish studies during the fall semester and professional internships with local organizations or the hosting university during the spring semester.
